Kioni

At Kioni we are committed to better rural communities in South Africa as we empower women through training and job creation initiatives. Our core team operates from our workshop in Tzaneen, a town that developed out of the productive citrus and fruit region in the northern part of the Limpopo province in South Africa. The area has many rural villages scattered on the outskirts of town where many local families still live in poverty and dependence on government grants. Kioni trains women from those communities so that they can develop a skill that will enable them to earn money whilst working from home, and in doing so be involved with raising their children and caring for the elderly in their respective communities – a chance that doesn’t often come around for uneducated women in impoverished communities. An empowered woman changes her community.

Southern African women are born into a lineage of women skilled in the art of beading - a traditional  art form deeply rooted in most South African and African cultures. We at Kioni have made it our  mission to design items harvesting traditional skills, but applying them in such a way that it appeals to  a wider, global market - giving it a modern spin on par with international trends – especially in the use  of good quality glass beads, colour and design. Wearing one of Kioni’s products means a decision was  made to support hand-crafted efforts of great quality and integrity. Our story has become your story and  you now own a piece of Africa!

Apart from once-off artisan pieces, like loomed necklaces and bracelets, or fun and bold jewellery  items like earrings and rings, we also specialise in corporate and collectible gifts of exceptional  quality – custom-made to your specifications and sustainable in the world of slow fashion.

At Kioni we strive to excel as we work and am grateful with what we have been given in life. Kioni not  only offers creatively crafted items, but we also offer a chance for each woman in our Kioni family to  bloom and grow, and be made aware of her God-given identity.

This product was hand crafted by people in rural communities all across South Africa. By supporting our upliftment  efforts, you allow us to sow into these communities with skills development programs, education drives, and new  job opportunities. By purchasing a product made by Kioni makes a difference - one bead at a time!
